Sun Defeat Wings Behind Strong Performances from Bonner and Hayes
Arlington – After a very competitive three quarters, the Connecticut Sun (18-6) pulled away from the Dallas Wings (13-10) in a final quarter scoring frenzy Tuesday night, securing an 88-83 victory.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Dallas.
With only four total points from their bench, Connecticut benefited tremendously from a game high 32 points by Dewanna Bonner and 28 points by Tiffany Hayes.
“The third quarter was our Achilles heel and that’s an area of growth for us,” shared Dallas Coach Latricia Trammell. “Usually going in the fourth that would give us a good lead going in. I think it’s just breaking the quarters into expectations, standards and goals. When we get to the fourth, we would set more goals. So, it’s just about breaking down the game instead of saying, just win this thing.”
Arike Ogunbowale played the entire game for the Wings and scored a team high 25 points. Satou Sabally earned her 13th double-double of the season, with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Teaira McCowan netted a season high 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite the loss, both Veronica Burton and Awak Kuier had impressive performances for Dallas. Burton saw her most playing time in almost one month, while Kuier had five rebounds and two blocks.
Dallas looks to rebound in another home game against Washington on Friday.
“We’ll continue to work on us and get ready to work on Washington,” says Trammell.
