'Black Joy' Inspires Juneteenth Fashion Show

Plano, Texas - The theme of the night was “Black Joy” and there was plenty such joy to converge on Plano’s Lexus Box Garden at Legacy West Sunday evening.

Juneteenth is special in its own right and worthy to be celebrated. Adding art, entertainment and fashion makes the celebration even more memorable. For the second consecutive year, Event Producer Leah Frazier of Think Three Media has made it a point to bring designers and community members together for a unique Legacy West Juneteenth Fashion Show.

“Even through oppression and the things that we’ve gone through as a community - joy was our resistance,” shares Frazier. “The goal was to bring joy through both entertainment and fashion.”

In keeping with the show’s theme, local vendors brought their original designs and products for patrons to peruse and purchase. Roots Chicken Shak seemed to be a crowd favorite for food. With relative ease, Sunday night became a networking with a vibe event.

Hosting Sunday’s festivities were familiar faces in the Dallas area. Longtime media personality Lady Jade and Project Runway Star Venny Etienne kept the sold out audience engaged, as the duo facilitated a well-designed show.

Featured throughout the night were various designers and models of all backgrounds. Both a violinist and a vocalist wowed the crowd. A special segment included models from Cedar Hill High School, a teen ballet dancer and a young lady who drew all the designs for the event’s marketing materials.

The Legacy West Juneteenth Fashion Show came together after nearly a full year of planning. Frazier and her team sourced all of their designers, patronized their respective businesses and then intentionally created a playlist of music to compliment the show.

The mission was to celebrate and spread “Black Joy.” That mission was indeed accomplished.
