Musical genres have long created subconscious boxes for musical artists, oftentimes making it very challenging to explore beyond their base.

To ask Dallas singer Mike Perignon which genre he calls home is to quickly learn that the versatile artist is well-versed in Blues, R&B, Hip Hop and even Pop.

For Perignon, singing is not a hobby, nor is it even just a passion – singing is a way of life. The South Dallas native has found solace in the creation and performance of original music so much so that he has dedicated the last two years of his life to recording music full-time. He previously took a break from the industry to get both his mind and spirit right.

“I had a lot of life issues I wanted to straighten out,” Perignon reveals. “Music is my refuge.”

Like so many artists, Perignon began singing in his family’s church. That led to shows for family functions and various events. Now he reflects on a career in music that spans more several decades.

“I don’t really remember when I started,” Perignon laughs. “It just feels like I’ve been singing all of my life.”

The lovable and ever-so approachable artist loves doing live performances, and he refuses to allow the pandemic to sour him on the idea of live performances returning post-pandemic. Throughout much of the 90s Perignon traveled for well-attended shows. He performed in Japan, opening for the likes Johnny Taylor, Zapp and Roger, Gap Band and After 7. He performed with the group Project Funk. Perignon also served as lead vocalist for groups Mike and Mike and The Zone Band.

While Perignon is most known for his vocal ability, he also plays both the guitar and drums. In addition to his instrumental talents, he is a legitimate songwriter.

Perignon has been busy over the last year, sharing with the world three of his more notable songs: What About Me, I Belong to You and Go For It. There are visuals to accompany these songs, and he is working daily to produce quality videos for his upcoming music.

The pandemic has afforded Perignon valuable time to pen sincere lyrics. According to him, above most things – the pandemic has taught him lots of patience and given him limitless time to be creative. He now visits the studio daily. All of his music encompasses messages about life, love and romance.

The goal for Perignon is to be consistent. Currently he is recording and releasing a chain of memorable singles and videos. The first album, Perignon hopes to complete early in this New Year. The project is a bit of a family affair, as collaborations with his cousin and fellow music artist Silky G will be featured on the album. Perignon’s son Latraze will also produce and write on the album.

Supporters are encouraged to follow and enjoy the talents of Perignon via all social media platforms, Spotifiy, Soundcloud and YouTube.

Perignon doesn’t know what the future holds, but insists music will always be an important dynamic of his life. His desire is to stay focused on encouraging future artists.

“I’m a straightforward guy, very loyal, I always like to be on time for everything and I value my family,” he says. “Even though I spend much of my time creating, I often listen to Michael Jackson, Prince, Chris Brown, and Charlie Wilson for inspiration.”

Perignon would like to remain an independent artist unless the deal is right.

“I want to always create meaningful music that inspires the younger generation,” Perignon says. “My music will remain clean and positive.”
