Wings Look Toward Playoffs Despite Two Home Losses
Arlington - After securing a spot in the playoffs, the Dallas Wings (20-18) have dropped their last two home games. Tuesday night’s disappointing 94-93 loss to the New York Liberty (31-7) leaves Dallas wanting more from the regular-season finale.
Satou Sabally had another impressive outing for Dallas, scoring 27 points. Arike Ogunbowale added 19 points and Natasha Howard had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Breanna Stewart led all scorers with 40 points. She also collected 10 rebounds and made nine of her 13 free throw attempts. While Sabrina Ionescu only scored five points for the Liberty, Betnijah Laney scored 22 points and Courtney Vandersloot added 16 points and 10 assists.
The intense matchup between two of the league’s best teams saw 16 lead changes and 19 ties. Dallas had an opportunity to win on the final possession with a good look by Sabally, but her shot hit hard off the backboard and Stewart grabbed her 10th rebound to seal the New York victory.
While the Wings didn’t get the win, the team can take confidence in the fact that they went to the wire with New York.
“They were proud of their competitive spirit. They were connected,” says Dallas Head Coach Latricia Trammel on the postgame locker room mood. “They came together and they competed. I feel like they came ready, but to see that performance – I told them we can win out and go deep in these playoffs. I was extremely proud of every one of them.”
Dallas will wrap up regular season play at home against Seattle on Friday.
