Dear Solange:

I appreciate your artistry. Your creative expression is unparalleled. And Lord knows I never want to piss off your sister, BUT what exactly did I just hear?

My ears, my musical heart, my internal vibrato and my subconscious syncopated two-step are all so confused.

After a 2016 release of the incredible album “A Seat at the Table,” - Solange has a new 19-track album entitled “When I Get Home.”

Some listeners will be impressed because it sounds nothing like the current status quo of today's radio sounds. The rest of us will wonder what strain we need to inhale in order for this album to make sense.

If there is any saving grace on this album, it may have to be the track “Way to the Show,” and its appeal with the repetitive notions of you can get it.

Solange is an incredible writer and there is no denying that. “When I Get Home,” is simply a stretch for even the most flexible musical imaginations. Perhaps there are some worthy messages underneath the overused electronics and drum pads.

Overall: 2.5 out of 5
