There is Still Some Spark to DeMarcus Cousins

Last Sunday, as I was shooting pregame images of the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors - I caught a glimpse of a very contemplative DeMarcus Cousins.

He sat and watched the likes of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson putting up shot after shot. When they departed the court to ready themselves for tipoff - Cousins rose to his feet and headed towards a basketball.

The 6’11, 270 pound forward/center began shooting shots from the perimeter as smoothly as a shooting guard. Although Cousins wasn’t set to make his debut that evening, his return after the long recovery from a torn ACL was much anticipated - even in Dallas.

Friday night, Cousins joined his Golden State teammates against the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite fouling out in 15 minutes of play, Cousins scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting. He made 3-of-4 from 3-point range, pulled down six rebounds and even had three assists in a 112-94 Golden State victory.

Cousins has been highly criticized for leaving the New Orleans Pelicans, after a productive season alongside Anthony Davis. He was even accused of taking the easy way to a championship, by joining an already stacked Golden State roster.

Regardless of the opinions, Cousins is still one of the most highly-coveted and diverse big men in the game. His addition to the Warriors’ roster should make for an even more interesting second half of the NBA season.
