Make Room for Lardi B
Several months ago I met a rather captivating lady in the basement bar underneath my apartment. Jennifer Whitlock took me by surprise with both her wit and her charm. She was funny and pretty much the life of the bar that night and several more nights to come. It seemed as if everyone who entered the bar knew her. Even the Downtown Dallas tourists took to her quickly.
Whitlock wasn’t a patron like myself - she was the bartender.
The 29-year-old Dallas native actually has three jobs. In addition to bartending, Whitlock works as a cocktail waitress for both The House of Blues and Southside Ballroom.
To sit and chat with Whitlock for a matter of minutes, one will soon discover her passion for music. Jenn Whitlock sings – Lardi B raps. The world is indeed making room for both personas.
Back in 2010, she really began to take music seriously. In 2011, Whitlock made her first video “Let Me In,” a song that she wrote about her sister’s struggle with drug addiction.
Of course Whitlock doesn’t refer to herself as a YouTube sensation, but it’s perfectly safe to call her a YouTube sensation. Back in January she began doing parodies to her favorite hits.
Lardi B released “Thicky Thighday,” a parody of Lil Dicky and Chris Brown’s “Freaky Friday.” An even more popular parody was Whitlock’s “They Like That I’m Fat" - (a spin on Cardi B’s "I Like It").
"They Like That I’m Fat” just hit 24 million views and has been shared by rap artists Cardi B and Trina.
Embracing her full-figure and artistically sharing positive body narratives are very important to Whitlock. She wants to be both entertaining and inspirational.
"If I had to describe my style, I would say that I’m mixed with Pink and Missy Elliot," describes Whitlock. “I’ll wear hoop earrings, grills and fur coats that light up and glitter.”
Jenn Whitlock and Lardi B are a package deal. The two very impressive personalities combine to share with the world ONE very talented writer, performer and video actress.
Lardi B was even featured in a very popular GO Muvr commercial over the summer.
Like most artists, Whitlock would love to be signed to a label some day. Right now, however, she’s enjoying her current journey. She made Billboard a couple of months ago.
The stage has been set. Jenn Whitlock is writing and the world better prepare for Lardi B to be a consistent performer.
** Over the weekend, Lardi B began a touring with CupcakKe. She will open for the artist during all of her Texas shows.
