Missy Elliott Receives Special Nomination

Even when she’s quiet - Missy Elliott should always be on our musical minds.

For more than 20 years, Melissa Arnette Elliott has given us some of the most innovative sounds and creative visuals.

The Grammy Award-winning artist has recently become the first female rapper nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Songwriters Hall provided The Associated Press the list of nominees today, a day ahead of its official announcement.

Elliott is joined by an incredible list of both performers and non-performers, including: Mariah Carey, Vince Gill, Cat Stevens, Dallas Austin and Jack Tempchin.

If you were in tune with the good R&B vibes of the 90s and the early 2000s, your ears have been greatly influenced by Elliott. She has written for the late icon Whitney Houston, her friend and R&B sweetheart - the late Aaliyah, TLC, Destiny's Child, Monica, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, Jazmine Sullivan, SWV, Total, Tweet and so many more.

What sets Elliott apart is the fact that she can both write music and produce for other artists with the same passion that she writes and produces for herself.

Not only does she deserve this nomination - Missy Elliott deserves this award and all of the honor that follows.
