Ella Mai is a Hitmaker
Ella Mai is greatness. She offers not a sound, but a feeling that the music industry has been missing for a good while. If Naked didn’t convince you that the London R&B singer was a vibe, I don’t know quite how to talk to you for another 300 or so words.
If Boo’d Up didn’t at least remind you of someone once worth loving on, you’re still not catching this wave. Sure, the song was overplayed – but there was no denying the feeling, the emotions evoked and the melody cherished.
And then there’s Trip. Not the Jacquees’ version that we’ll address on another post, but Ella Mai’s Trip. Don’t kid yourself; you’ve had to put your feelings on safety so you wouldn’t go shooting where that one person’s heart ‘be.’
One of the greatest musical stories of 2018 will be how Ella Mai wasn’t done with three top-rated songs at the same time. Her album Ella Mai simply keeps the hits coming. Throughout the Ella Mai album, the singer explores and shares remedies and repercussions of love: the good, the bad and the robust.
There is so much authenticity and even more honesty in Ella Mai’s lyrics.
Even though I'm good without you, I'm fuckin' with you regardless
And if that's gon' hurt you, least you can say is I'm honest.
That jeer that most grown women have wanted to utter a time or ten is straight from the track Sauce.
Shot Clock is kind of like driving around with your middle finger hanging out of the window. It’s truly fair warning before missing out on a good love.
Appearances from Chris Brown, John Legend and H.E.R. only add to the musical madness that is charmingly Ella Mai.
The beats are head-nodders for sure, thanks to DJ Mustard who produced a great deal of the album.
It doesn’t happen every day, but I do believe that in Ella Mai – we’ve been blessed with an album that we can just let play.
My Rating: 5 out 5 stars
