Frustrating Night Leads to Home Loss for Wings, Playoff Chances Fade
Arlington - The Dallas Wings (9-24) looked so exhausted most of the first half Tuesday night, that a valiant second half effort proved not enough in a 90-86 loss to the Washington Mystics (10-23).
While Teaira McCowan was near a double double midway through the second quarter - Arike Ogunbowale and Satou Sabally combined for just seven points when the Wings entered the locker room at halftime. The Dallas offense was simply stagnant.
Washington on the other hand simply couldn’t miss from three point range. The Mystics scored nine of their 16 three point attempts during the first two quarters. Every other Dallas field goal was met with a deafening outside shot by Washington.
Emily Engstler had a career night for Washington, scoring 19 points. She led her team in scoring. Washington would go on to finish the night with 12 made shots from distance, while Dallas only scored on four of 18 shots from three.
Dallas did put on a better show for the home crowd in the second half. Ogunbowale led all scorers with 21 points. McCowan finished the game with 20 points and 13 rebounds. There were several questionable calls against her, leaving both the 6’7” center and Dallas fans upset. Howard and Sabally finished the night with 14 and 12 points respectively.
After breaking the first quarter tie of 5-5, Washington never trailed in this game. Both teams entered the night with 9-23 records, however, Washington has now swept the season series 3-0.
