Aces Outlast Wings in Impressive Scoring Duel by Wilson and Ogunbowale
Arlington - The Las Vegas Aces improved to 5-2 with a 95 - 81 win over the Dallas Wings (3-5) Wednesday night.
A’ja Wilson led all scorers with 36 points. The two-time MVP also grabbed 12 rebounds and had six steals. Wilson would score 12 of her team’s first 20 points, which pushed the Aces to an early 22-6 lead against a shorthanded Wings’ team.
The Aces would finish the first quarter with a 29-16 point lead, shooting an impressive 63 percent from the field. They lead by as many as 20 points in the first half, however, Dallas would not go away quietly.
Led by the league’s leading scorer - Arike Ogunbowale, Dallas made a late first half push. The home team would only trail by five points at halftime, rallying the score to 47-42.
“There were moments of brilliance,” Dallas Coach Latricia Trammel shared post game. “We kept fighting.”
Ogunbowale finished the night with 31 points. Teaira McCowan completed a double-double, with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Maddy Siegrist scored 14 points and Monique Billings added 12.
Throughout Wednesday’s game, there was no denying the dominance of the Las Vegas squad or the resilience of the Dallas team. In addition to Wilson’s game high 35 points - Kelsey Plum scored 20 points for the Aces and Jackie Young added 19.
The Wings are still without All-Star Satou Sabally, who will likely remain sidelined with a shoulder injury until the completion of the summer olympics. Veteran Natasha Howard is still recovering from a broken foot. After an impressive season debut, Jaelyn Brown remains sidelined with an undisclosed illness.
Dallas has an opportunity to get back in the win column on Friday, when they meet the Sparks in Los Angeles.
