Golden State big man DeMarcus Cousins’ first experience of an NBA postseason was short-lived.

The eight year veteran tumbled to the hardwood chasing a loose ball during Monday night’s game two playoff match against the Los Angeles Clippers. Cousins immediately grimaced, as he grabbed at his left thigh. By the conclusion of the game, Warriors’ Coach Steve Kerr admitted that the team expected the worst.

A Tuesday morning MRI revealed that Cousins had indeed torn his left quadriceps, ending his season.

Cousins missed almost a full season of basketball after tearing his left achilles last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He signed a one-year deal with the Warriors, hoping that a solid year of play would put him in prime position to secure a great contract in free agency this summer.

The Warriors went on to lose game two to the Clippers 135-131. Game three will be played Thursday night in Los Angeles. A combination of Kevon Looney and Andrew Bogut will likely fill the on-court void of Cousins.
